Shuttle Bus Information

There are two possible shuttle departure times, depending on the company’s bookings and availability. Your assigned departure time will be displayed when selecting an available date in the “Lake O'Hara - Book Now” section. 

 

Schedule (8:30 Shuttle Option)

07:45 – Meeting at the trailhead. Meet and greet, waiver signing, and trip briefing.

08:15 – Board the Embark Shuttle Bus. Parks Canada orientation speech.

08:30 – Shuttle departure to Lake O’Hara.

09:00 – Arrival at Le Relais. Start of the guided hike.

16:00 – Return to Le Relais. Free time while waiting for the shuttle bus.

16:30 – Board the Embark Shuttle Bus for the return to the trailhead.

17:00 – Arrival back at the trailhead. End of service. 

 

Schedule (10:30 Shuttle Option)

09:45 – Meeting at the trailhead. Meet and greet, waiver signing, and trip briefing.

10:15 – Board the Embark Shuttle Bus. Parks Canada orientation speech.

10:30 – Shuttle departure to Lake O’Hara.

11:00 – Arrival at Le Relais. Start of the guided hike.

18:00 – Return to Le Relais. Free time while waiting for the shuttle bus.

18:30 – Board the Embark Shuttle Bus for the return to the trailhead.

19:00 – Arrival back at the trailhead. End of service. 
 

Hiking Itinerary

Group Hiking Level: Moderate to difficult.

Note: Please note that this service is offered as a guided group experience. Participants are expected to remain together for the duration of the program, and we must accommodate the abilities and pace of the entire group. 

Please also note that the final objective and route may vary depending on trail and weather conditions. 

During the early hiking season, snow is likely to remain on sections of the trail. As a result, the itinerary and hiking objectives may need to be adjusted based on trail and weather conditions.

Lake Oesa to Opabin Plateau Traverse — Moderate to Difficult

Leg 1: Lake O’Hara to Lake Oesa
Distance: 3.2 km | Elevation gain: 250 m

​

Leg 2: Lake Oesa to Hungabee Lake via Yukness Ledges
Distance: 2.6 km | Elevation gain: 215 m | Elevation loss: 247 m
Alpine terrain with sections of exposure.

 

Leg 3: Opabin Plateau Exploration
Distance: 2.0 km | Minimal elevation gain and loss

Leg 4: Opabin Plateau to Lake O’Hara
Distance: 1.7 km | Elevation loss: 210 m

100% of the estimated charges are due upon booking.

 

Cancellation

If the cancellation is made at least 15 days prior to the date of service, the guest will receive a full refund, minus a 5% transaction fee. If the cancellation is made less than 15 days prior to the date of service, no refund will be issued.

 

Booking Conditions

All participants must sign the Banff Hiking Company waiver of liability prior to commencing any Banff Hiking Company program.

 

It is imperative that you disclose any medical condition that could put you, your guide, or others' safety at risk.

 

In the unlikely event of an emergency, participants may, depending on the program location, be liable for any rescue or evacuation costs incurred either on their behalf or as a result of their actions.
